Earlier, there were a few rumors claiming that Microsoft is looking to buy a stake in BlackBerry. And now, there is the news of the SEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, approaching BlackBerry so as to initiate a partnership to manufacture Windows Phones. This partnership will be somewhat similar to what Microsoft has with Nokia Oyj. If agreed by RIM, BlackBerry devices could be allowed to use the Windows Phone 8 OS update.

Going by the news, BlackBerry had refused Microsoft for holding a stake in their company. As a reason BlackBerry said that allowing Microsoft to hold a stake in the company will dilute their independence and deviate them from their future missions related to BlackBerry 10.

Seems like BlackBerry is thinking of long term goals on the cost of ignoring the short-term benefits.
