I gave two thumbs-up last time for the Molome Photo-Sharing app at the App World but let’s get back to the other most downloaded photo editing tool from the App World: Photo Studio. The new version 0.9.8.25 offers some fixes to some known issues and some capability upgrades including:

 1. Personalization for French, Spanish and Russian

 2. BBM Connectivity

 3. Fix to the error: “Can’t Browse”

On top of these fixes and ipdates, however, two of the best new additions on the application are the Valentine’s-inspired frames and the new feature called PicFrames. The Valentine’s-inspired frames definitely are just in time now for the Love month, and users who love taking pictures with their handsets will have this sweet new collection. PicFrames, on the other hand, allows users to combine multiple photos to create a single picture.

These new features are definitely a welcome addition to a classic photo-editing app for BlackBerry handsets

We all love free apps, don’t we? If you’re interested, download it below:

One of the most distinct features of BlackBerry smartphones is the LED Indicator located at the upper right hand corner of the handset. Yes, it is the blinking light that sometimes distracts you from what you’re currently doing, but otherwise to say that you either have an email, an SMS, a BBM, etc., etc. I guess it’s apart from the undeniable aesthetic that it gives (the blinking green, or red light somehow makes the phone more eye-catching), this blinking light also provides several functions for the users.

Today, I’d like to give you a couple of tips that you can do with the LED Indicator:

1. The LED light on top of the handset also serves as a light sensor. Normally, the keyboard lights up on dark lighting conditions and dims out when exposed to daylight. This obviously saves battery and is energy efficient. There numerous times, however, that even if you’re outside, or perhaps in a relatively bright area, you still would like the keyboard lights to be on. The trick here is to cover the LED Indicator with a finger (perhaps while typing) to make the sensor “think” that it is in a dark area and needs the keyboard lights to be up, and voila! keyboard lights will be on.

2. The LED light is set to blink regularly to indicate the availability of network coverage.
It could be battery consuming, but the blinking light can also be distracting at times that some users would rather just see the LED blink on important situations (i.e. when receiving an email, a BBM, what have you). Here’s what you can do: Go to Options > Screen/Keyboard > LED Coverage Indicator = Off.

What do the LED Lights Mean?

Green (flashing): Phone is within a wireless/network coverage area

Green (solid): Phone is off and is currently charging

Red (flashing): a call or message has been received; may also indicate a reminder or urgent task

Red (solid): May indicate a phone error, or phone is about to go through reset/reboot

Blue (flashing): Bluetooth is active

Amber (flashing): Battery power is low (may need recharge)

What other things would you like to know about the LED on your handset? Hit the comment box below and let me know.

These handsets are so designed to make communication easier, faster, and more secure anywhere in the world. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that social networking apps for the corporate crowd (LinkdIn for example) are present in the App World.

There is, however, a sleeker social networking application for the big boss that has landed in BlackBerry’s App World: Viadeo. This professional social networking application is in many ways better than the competition. 40 million members across the globe is a testament to how universal this app has become. It is integrated with the contacts on individual handsets, where users can easily invite friends or family straight to the network.

As the application is free, you may download it by clicking the link below. Who knows, your next contact could well be your next business partner.

To all PlayBook users, you’re probably at the height of your excitement now as the release of Playbook OS version 2.0 draws near. Although various sources online have not yet pinpointed the exact day this month–some claim it will be on the 6th, which is only a couple of days from now, while some say it won’t be until the 17th–the whole situation can only described as breath-taking.

Prices of the PlayBook may have remarkably gone down since it came out last year, with RIM now offering Playbooks for free to developers, but the version 2.0 is something worth all the fuss about. In fact this may even prove to be a benefit to those planning on getting the tablet since the OS update will be a more polished version of the original release.

Playbook OS Version 2.0 is said to have native support for email, calendar and contacts, which the public has criticized on the previous version. It is also said to improve on its text editing capabilities, including text-prediction and auto-correction.

Apart from these updates, one of the big new features perhaps everyone is waiting for is the new version of its Video Chat application. It is said to include a new UI experience, auto-detection of chat contacts, and an indicator to show when contacts are available to chat.

So, if you’re an owner of a BlackBerry Playbook, perhaps this is something you’d feel a little bit more proud of since getting it last year.

When doing self-hosted blogs, users don’t have to go through the whole rigmarole of sending their writings to a publisher, getting it copy-read, and in most times receiving it back rejected. These days, a lot of young adults and businesses take advantage of the hype in blogsites to further their popularity in photography or writing, and also to get profit from advertising, for example. And these days, blogs have become more than just sites to read, view photos and watch videos from because they now have turned into a social media tool where others can follow and write comments on the posts.

BlackBerry handphones have become very convenient gadgets designed not just to create those lengthy emails and documents. With those iconic keyboards making these tasks possible, the thought of using a BlackBerry to write or post those write-ups on the go makes perfect sense. You could be on out on a holiday, travelling, or perhaps in a cafe chilling out when you have that moment of epiphany. Now it’s just a matter of pulling that Berrry out of its holster and typing away the golden idea on your mind: a poem, a funny thought, a little secret…possibilities are endless.

Now, here’s a couple of free apps to help you have that on-the-go blog experience:

1. WordPress for BlackBerry: The free BlackBerry app allows user to post and edit writings/ blogs, upload and share photos and videos, and manage those comments. The minimum OS requirement for the app to work starts from OS version 4.5.

Download the app here: http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/5802/

2. Tumblr for BlackBerry: This is also a free app from the App World where users can share photos and write-ups to their followers.

Download the app here: http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/7726/

Do you have that amusing thought to share? Or a cool photo to show? Try them now and get that fast media exposure through these applications.

As a heavy Twitter user, this application sure whets my appetite a little. Although Twitter for BlackBerry already has the “share with BBM contacts” option, this massive, planned integration could well pave the way for BBM to rise to even greater popularity, somewhere in the lines of a social networking app. As we all know, BBM at this time is just an instant messaging application where users get to chat real-time with their contacts. The additional features, however, like status updates and broadcast messaging make the experience feel a little bit more than that. And if RIM is planning on heavily using Twitter to leverage on its millions of followers (pun unintended) I think that BBM could soon well become the very first social-networking, instant-messaging app to ever grace the net-verse.

These all sound well and good, but for now the integration is still very much in the pipeline. Is this something you are looking forward to?

If you’re thinking that all the hype are on the new OS7 devices and the much-awaited next-generation smartphones, RIM has just proven that wrong. Users of the BlackBerry Pearl 9105 (and 9100), Curve 9300, and the Torch 9800 don’t have to feel left out with the release of the new software version. This bodes really well for RIM because a bigger percentage of BlackBerry users still have the older models, and updating the OS versions for these handsets show continuous support from the Canadian-based company.

Globe Telecom has cascaded news via SMS that RIM has scheduled a maintenance upgrade for the BlackBerry App World today, January 31st, 2012. According to the general message, the interruption on the service will run from 3PM until 7PM. This will affect the Asia Pacific, including the Philippines, so some users may not be able to login to their respective accounts, and may not be able to download and browse through the App World during those times.

Globe, however, made it clear that users can still utilize the other services they are subscribed with including BBMessenger, email and internet browsing.

However, what makes MOLOME an even worthier competition to Instagram is that MOLOME is a stand-alone social-networking site where users can “love” and leave photo comments all within the application.

Apart from that, users can also take snapshots using the application’s built-in camera to easily edit and put filters on, which is a feature reminiscent of the iOS counterpart.

Check out these amazing features available in MOLOME:

1. 14 Filters include Vintage, Sepia, Black and White, Old Paper, and Rainbow
2. Blackberry Notifications integrated
3. View for both Timeline (to show your friends/followers updates) and Popular Photos (to show most “loved/liked” photos in the site)
4. Screen resolution of up to 640×480 is supported
5. Follow friends who are also using MOLOME, and view their uploaded photos.
6. In-app camera for quick access and sharing
7. “Love/Like” Photos (by clicking the “heart logo below the image) and Leave Comments within the application
8. Twitter and Facebook integrated
9. FREE!

I’m sure no Berry fanatic would want to miss this wonderful, FREE app now. Click the link below to download:
